One dancer per gate, we danced in reaction to one another, creating waves of movement down the path, mimicing the force of wind moving the Gates. Other dancers improvised, were statues of foreboding, others embraced. Susan Wolfe wrote, "It was astounding how the entire south walk of the great lawn went quiet, instantly transformed it into a performance space. Where and when does performance/exhibit space end and in-the-Morent life experience begin? Where do they intersect? Part? And when? The initial BIG hush lasted only a abut 5 minutes, though the decibel level most definitely did not make it up to normal levels during the entire performance. I expect that The Gates overall had this effect on park-goers, dancing really intensified it."
